It's Christmas!

Last night's Christmas Bonspiel was a great success, with 25 members taking part. We were delighted to welcome Val Blandy and Jim Paxton to the club, and to see Rosemary McNee on the ice again.

Some of the action
After several close games, the winners were Bill Abbott's team of Margaret Morrison, Forbes Watson and Jim Paxton. They won three out of four games and finished on 6 points.
Runners up were David Wallace's team with two wins and a better shots score.

Afterwards, coffee, mince pies and a gift from Santa rounded off the evening.

Final Games in Autumn League

There were two very close results tonight, although both games had great fightbacks of 5 shots in the last three ends to make them so tight.
Pride of place went to David Wallace's team of Mara Lindsay, Bob Handley and Alison Young, who hung on for a draw against Richard Morrison to cement their place as winners of the Autumn League.
They finished on 13 points, 4 clear of David Gilmour's team and fully deserve the title.
In the other game, Bill Inglis and his team hung on to win 8-7 against Graham Spence's team.

The final league positions are:

David Wallace's Team clinch the Autumn League

A good 6-4 win over Bill Inglis by David Wallace and his team of Bob Handley, Alison Young and Bill Abbott (subbing for Mara Lindsay) means that David now has 12 points, 3 clear of David Gilmour's team.

The Gilmour team of Ian Snodgrass, Alan Gorman and Jennifer Peat also won, beating Richard 10-5 and thus securing second place in the league.

So with one week left, the first two places are decided. Next week is the last league game and it will be interesting to see who finishes in the 3rd to 5th places. Click on the League Results Page above for the up to date position.

Fullarton Team wins the Letton Stone

At the Letton Bonspiel last night, our team of David Gilmour, David Wallace, Sandi Wallace and Mara Lindsay won the coveted Letton Stone.  This was our first win since 2005 in the competition, organised annually by Troon Portland CC.

Congratulations to all four.

Last Night's Games

There were victories for Bill Inglis and David Gilmour last night.

Bill started like a house on fire and built up an 8 shot lead before Richard fought back with three twos in a row. Unfortunately, at the last end he couldn't complete the task, and a two for Bill's team ensured a 10-8 victory.

On the other rink twos at the fourth and fifth ends meant that Dave Gilmour's team were always in control. Despite Mike McNeill's singles at the last two ends, Dave finished up winning by 7-5.

League Games 6th Nov - and another Kyle & Carrick Victory

David Wallace's team maintained their lead in the league with a 9-4 victory over Mike McNeill's team. While on the other rink David Gilmour managed four shots at the last end to snatch an exciting draw with Bill Inglis.
The league results and up to date table are shown in the page above or you can find them by following this link.

Later that night Fullarton recorded their second win of the year in the Kyle & Carrick League, beating Ayr and Alloway 10-3. The front end of Mara Lindsay and Dave Pittam played exceptionally well, leaving third Ronnie Peat and skip Mike McNeill straightforward shots to keep the pressure on the opposition.
Shot of the night was Mike's last stone - an inch perfect inwick from the edge of the circle to lie shot on the button and steal the last end.

Autumn League - Halfway Stage

Bill Inglis, with Margaret Morrison, Charlie Rennie and Forbes Watson took a single shot at the 8th end to tie their game 7-7 with Mike McNeill.  Mike's team was Graham Spence, Campbell Kay and Mabel Hildebrand.
On the other rink, Richard Morrison's team of Dave Pittam, Alan Gorman and Sandra Inglis beat Mara Lindsay, Bob Handley and Jennifer Peat 6-2.
So at the halfway stage the league leader is David Wallace's team with 6 points from 4 games. They are closely followed by Mike McNeill on 5 points and Dave Gilmour on 4. Of course, everyone is still in with a chance and there's all to play for in the reverse fixtures.

Week 3 Results and Other Things

Last night saw two very close games, an exciting change from the "big wins" of the first two weeks. Mike McNeill's team beat Richard Morrison's at the last stone and on the other sheet David Wallace's team narrowly defeated David Gilmour's team, a game which also went to the last stone.
Skipping for David Wallace was Bob Handley, in his first game at skip. He played some crucial shots for victory.
Kyle & Carrick
Our team played on Monday against Kilmarnock Townend and unfortunately couldn't repeat their earlier success, losing to John Evans's experienced team.

The RCCC sent out the first issue of their online magazine on Monday.

Lastly, Bill Abbott has some curling shoes for sale.

Points Competition

The Points Trophy was played for last night with 10 keen curlers competing.

Everyone enjoyed the night, helped with the scoring and generally had a good time.  We played all but one of the disciplines and the ice was judged as good, with all the shots being possible, although perhaps not easy to accomplish.
Everyone at least made it to double figures and the final result was very close.
The top three were:
3rd Place    Bill Inglis       16  points
2nd Place    Bill Abbott    28 points
1st Place     Ronnie Peat  29 points

Some photos follow (click on the photo to enlarge).

Start of Autumn League

The first games were played in the Autumn League last night. There were good wins for David Gilmour's team and David Wallace's team.  All the results and league position can be seen here or by clicking on the Results page above.

To develop the website further we have set up a new page on etiquette. The first article is an amusing set of New Year Resolutions from Robin Copland, who is a former Scottish Champion and the author of the Behind the Glass curling blog. Worth a look for interesting insight to competitive curling and other things. Any other contributions will be welcome!

Opening Bonspiel

The season started tonight with a closely fought opening bonspiel. At the end of the night two teams were tied on 5 points out of 6 and two on 1 point.

The winning team
Ronnie Peat, Roy Mitchell, Allison Young and Ian Snodgrass

The winners were Allison Young, Roy Mitchell, Ian Snodgrass and Ronnie Peat. They were six shots up and beat the runners up, Barbara Kirby, Charlie Rennie, Mara Lindsay and David Wallace by only two shots.

Runners Up
Charlie Rennie, David Wallace, Mara Lindsay and Barbara Kirby

There were many good shots played on keen swinging ice, none better than President Ian's raise to the four foot to count shot against 5 stones lying for Alan Caldow's team.

Alan's team of Sandi Wallace, Campbell Kay and Steven Kirby snatched third place just ahead of David Pittam's team of Alan Gorman, Jennifer Peat and Mabel Hildebrand.

After the game, Ian welcomed everyone to the new season and Mara graciously presented the prizes.
