Well that was close!!

What an exciting conclusion to the Autumn League! Going into the final week, three rinks were all in a position to win . Both matches were hard fought. Richard's rink were successful over Margaret's, so everything hinged on the result on the other rink. Mara had a draw for shot with the final stone of the final end, but it was just too heavy, and slid to the back of the house, giving Mike's rink victory in both the match and the League. Very well done to Mike, Alison, Robin , Steven and Karen (don't panic, there were not five in the team - Steven and Karen shared lead)

Christmas Bonspiel next week - don't forget your 'bring and win' prize.

It's going to the wire!

Tonight's games resulted in a good win for David's rink over Margaret's rink. On the other sheet, Mike's and Bill's rinks were peels after 7 ends. In the final end, Mike took a single shot to give his rink victory. This means we have a nail biting conclusion to the League, with three teams in a position to win going in to the final games next week. David's rink can do no more, and will be relying on the results of other rinks to determine the final placings

Final three weeks, plus the Letton Bonspiel

Dave Pittam stepped in to skip at short notice, and led his team to a hard fought win against Margaret's rink. On the other sheet, David Wallace's rink played steadily to win over Richard's rink. Only two weeks of matches to go in this competition, and it is still very close!

Letton Bonspiel
Last night, David Wallace, Richard Morrison, Jim Paxton and Jim Lindsay represented Fullarton in Portland Curling Club's Letton Bonspiel. In this friendly match, players are allocated rinks made up of players from all participating Clubs. Congratulations to David who skipped the winning rink

What a well turned out Club!

Looking resplendent in our new jackets, we took to the ice tonight. Big wins were enjoyed by both Mike and Bill, with Mike's rink  defeating David's by 12 shots to 3, and Bills's rink beating Mara's by 8 shots to 1. Players who have ordered new jackets, but have not yet received them, don't worry - Mara will get these to you as soon as possible

Halfway point of Autumn League

Very different results in tonight's matches. Rinks skipped by Bill and Graham (skipping in Margaret's place) had a very close game, with Bill managing a 3 in the final end to give him a 5 - 4 win. On the other sheet, Mara's rink had a good win over Mike's

Each rink has now played 4 games, and results are close. Richard is leading the field, one point ahead of Mike, with Mara 1 point behind that. It's all to pay for!

Indoor Grand Match

Six Fullarton players took part in the 2015 Indoor Grand Match on Saturday. This takes place every 5 years, and curlers from the North compete against curlers from the South. 2,376 curlers took part, in 17 ice rinks across Scotland. Fullarton were drawn to play at Stranraer, so Richard, Margaret, Jim and Mara set off bright and early, as they were on the ice at 10.00am. They had a very close match against Stranraer 1 (who were playing for the North (long story, don't ask!!), just losing out 8 - 9. Alison and Ronnie also took part - playing for Troon Portland and Gangrels respectively. This was a really enjoyable day - look out for the next one in 2020, and consider putting your name forward. Good news is that the South won - by 2154 shots to 1928. Have a look at the RCCC website for a full report

Note the smart jackets (which will look even better once we have Club logo on them!)

One week to Go in League

Last night, Richard had only two players, so David Wallace was awarded two points, 6 shots and 5 ends in accordance with RCCC Rules.

David has therefore moved to 11 points.

In the other game, Margaret Morrison skipped the Bills team to a victory over Mara by 10 shots to 7.

Next week's final games are between Bills (Inglis and Abbott) and Richard, and a top of the table clash between David and Mike.

The winner will claim the title.  A draw will be sufficient for David to win.

It's Tight at the Top

There were wins last night for Mara, who beat Richard by one shot and Mike, who beat Bill Inglis by 4 shots.

As a result, the top three teams are now separated by only one point.

Mike McNeill and his team of Dave Pittam, Jim Paxton and Hilary Henry have now taken over top spot from David Wallace.

Mike has 9 points and +16 shots while David has 9 points and +10 shots. Close behind is the Mara Lindsay team, who have 8 points and +3 shots.

With two weeks to go, David has a game in hand, but his last game will be against Mike.  Interesting!

It was a very sociable and enjoyable game, which we hope to repeat next year. Thanks to President Chris and his players for their invitation

In the other game, Mike McNeill's team scored a 5 at the 5th end to record an 11-5 victory in a high scoring game with Richard Morrison.

Mid Point in Spring League

Two very close games last night. Graham Spence was skipping for Richard and scored singles in the last three ends to narrowly beat Bill Abbott by 5 shots to 4.

The other game was even closer, ending in a 5-5 draw between Mike McNeil and Alison Young, playing well as skip for David Wallace.

We have now reached the halfway point, with everyone having played 4 games.
The Wallace team is setting the pace with 7 points, closely followed by Mike on 5 points and Mara on 4.

Games Feb 3rd

Alison Young ably skipped David Wallace's team to a 11-3 victory over Richard Morrisons team, skipped by Graham.
The other game was very close and came down to the last stone.  Bill Inglis narrowly missed a difficult raise and thus only scored one shot at the last end, leaving Mara's team the victors by 5 shots to 4.

Paterson Horn

Fullarton Curling Club were pleased to accept Tarbolton Curling Club's invitation to compete for the Paterson Horn. They compete for this interesting trophy each year against a local club, and this year, we were delighted to accept their invitation. Three rinks took part: David Wallace's rink lost narrowly on the last end, Ronnie Peat's rink lost against strong opposition, and President Mara's rink improved after a slow start to peel on the last end - so Tarbolton retained their trophy.

Thanks to the players who played, and also to Tarbolton for their invitation and hospitality

2015 Pairs Competition

Thanks to President Mara for this report

A very successful pairs competition took place tonight. Six pairs played in a Round Robin to qualify. Mike and Ian beat Dave Pittam and Alison in the 3/4 playoff.

Mara in action

2nd place Jim & Mara - Winners Margaret and Graham
The final was played between Margaret and Graham against Jim Paxton and Mara. It was a really close game, one shot all after 2 ends. Margaret was triumphant in the third end, taking a single, and retained her Pairs title ( albeit with a different partner!).

Thanks to Jennifer for organising all the games, even though she was not able to play!

Congratulations to Margaret and Graham

Last Night's Games

Mara Lindsay's team bounced back from last week's defeat to beat Richard Morrison by 11 shots to 2.

In the other game, Bill Inglis started very well, running up 8 shots in the first 4 ends, before Mike McNeill's fight back.  Bill's team held their nerve, however, to win by 9 shots to 8.

Stranraer Weekend

This year we again had three teams competing at the North West Castle. We were delighted that Ewan and Avril Marr were able to join us and that Faye McNeill supported us from the sidelines once again.

Ewan skipped a rink with Mara, Jim and Avril and they had three close games with a victory over Bill Abbott's team yesterday morning.

Bill's team of Fiona, Anne and Robin Wilson also had three close games, being very narrowly defeated on the Saturday afternoon.

Ronnie's team of Mike, Alison and Jennifer had three good wins, to qualify as Section winners for the semi finals. Their opponents were Eric Richardson's team who were on top form and worthy winners.

As always, the food and refreshments were of a very high standard and we enjoyed an excellent dinner dance and contributed fully to the entertainment thereafter.

Special thanks are due to Mara for organising the trip. We intend to return next January and hope that we can encourage more of you to join us for what is always a great weekend.

Spring League - First Games

It might not be Spring weather yet, but the Spring League is now well underway.

Mara Lindsay recovered well from losing a big end near the start, but eventually lost 7-10 to David Wallace's team.

In the other game, Mike McNeill scored singles at the last three ends to beat Richard Morrison by 7 shots to 3.
