What a super night we had!
It's always good to see everyone playing in different positions! We had 4 full teams and Alison and Margaret observed and did the scoring. We managed to play 7 ends!
The scoring was very close and the Team of Mike McNeill, Jim Lindsay, Freda Millar and Robin White were the worthy winners! Campbell's Team of Steve Gillies, Anne Wilson & Jennifer Peat were a close 2nd.
President Alison presented the prizes and invited everyone to select their gifts from Santa!
The Catering was excellent and the club funds provided our Seasonal drinks.

Mara said the games were very close and the score cards did not tell the full story!

23rd October League Matches
Mike and Bill's teams had a really close match and were level until the 6th end. However, Bill's team went on to win 11 points to 6.
Mara's team were really on form against Margaret's team. Margaret just couldn't find the answers against Mara's team and their accurate play.
We welcomed Will Morton to the club. He also plays with Disnae.

17 October League Matches
Both games were played on what we all agreed was tricky ice! Despite that, Bill Inglis's team had a good win over Margaret with a 9-4 win with all players playing really well.
Richard was 4 up after 4 ends but Mike's team fought back for a really close finish of 6 ends all with Mike delivering an excellent final stone.

Points Competition
The Points competition was as usual a friendly, sociable event with everyone rising to the challenges that points brings! It was good to be reminded of the variety of shots available to us when playing our league competitions.
10 of us played and the worthy winner was Ronnie Peat with Jim Paxton coming a very close second. Jim Lindsay was 3rd.
Campbell valiantly fought to defend his title but despite his best efforts came up a short!

First Games of Autumn League
Our season got off to a flying start last night on keen swingy ice.
Mara, with her team of Campbell Kay, Joe Miller and Jim Paxton had to fight back from 5-1 down to Bill Inglis, Robin White and Mabel Hildebrand. Scores of 2, 4 and 2 did the trick and she finished ahead by 9 shots to 7.
On the other sheet it was great to see Dave Pittam curling again, after his lengthy fight back to fitness, and also to welcome Will Morton to the club. Dave and Will were joined by Katie Hodge and Jim Lindsay in Margaret Morrison's team.
Margaret and Richard had obviously decided that they didn't want the challenge of playing against each other in the first game of the season, preferring to spend the time in sunnier climes. In Richard's absence, Alison Young, Ronnie Peat, Katie Hodge and Steve Gillies got the breaks to score seven shots in ends two and three and finished up by 11 shots to 3.
Next games are Monday 1st October at 7.45, when Mara takes on Mike McNeil and Bill Inglis plays Richard Morrison.

Four rinks of three players competed in the Closing Bonspiel on Tuesday, and it was a victory for the girls, as the rink of Mara, Alison and Katie came out on top after peeling one game and winning two. We then enjoyed a meal, followed by the AGM where the prizewinners were presented with their trophies and prizes. President Alison wished everyone a good summer, and looks forward to seeing everyone in September

Spring League winners Bill and Alison (Anne and Alan were unable to attend the AGM) |

That couldn't have been closer!
All to play for tonight, and the Skips knew exactly what was at stake! Bill's rink were leading by 2 points going into tonight's matches, but Mara's rink were only 2 behind, so a win for them and a loss for Bill would have altered everything!!
Two very close games were played. Mara's rink took an early 4 against Mike's rink, and held on to win 7 - 6. All eyes on the next sheet!
After 6 ends, Campbell's rink was leading , but Bill's rink took a 3 in the 7th to draw level. Bill's rink were successful in the final end, and won 9-6, and won the League. Congratulations to Bill and his rink of Alison, Alan and Anne (although credit must also go to Steve and Karen who subbed for Bill's rink tonight)

Doubles Competition
Four pairs took part in the Double Competition on Tuesday. At last year's AGM it was decided that this should take the form of a Doubles competition, rather than Pairs. After a keenly contested round robin format, Ronnie Peat and Steve Gillies emerged as winners, with Jim Paxton and Anne Wilson runners up

Valentine Week Matches
On Monday Mara, Ronnie, Mike and Campbell played in the first round of the Day League Knockout competition. A good team effort saw them defeat Kirkoswald (1) by 12 shots to 2. They now go forward to the semi-final on February 26th
Tonight's league matches were both closely contested. Bill's rink took an early lead against Mike's rink, who fought back, but could not close the gap. On the other sheet, Campbell's rink started slowly against Mara's rink, but pulled back to peel after 6 ends. Mara's rink took a 3 in the penultimate end, which Campbell's rink just failed to match in the last end.

Early February Update
It's been a busy few days for some Fullarton members.
On Sunday Alison, Joe, Freda, Jim and Mara took part in the Highlander Bonspiel. The format was very new, with a dice being thrown at the beginning of each end to determine how shots would be scored. After a bit of head scratching to work to work out the rules, everyone enjoyed themselves. The team skipped by Mara was the winning rink. The team were Gordon Johnstone (Tarbolton), Alison and Steve Gillies (who enjoyed the experience so much that he has joined us as a sub! They are pictured with sponsor Bert Mackay

On Monday two rinks, skipped by Ronnie and Mara played in our annual friendly match against Darvel CC. It was a very enjoyable evening, and although we won one game, we lost the match on shots. As President Alison said - will try harder next year!!

Fullarton CC in Day league E
Fullarton have now finished their first season in the Day Leagues and for the moment at least we're in third place. You'll see that all the other teams have at least one more game to play so we'll no doubt slip a few places before the final positions are known.
Congratulations to all who played and performed so well.

Mara wins Silver in National Masters
Congratulations to Mara Lindsay who reached the final of the National Masters Competition at Greenacres yesterday.
Mara was third to Aileen McCorkill's Troon Portland Rink.
In the final, they came up against Elaine Semple's Greenacres rink, who had beaten them in last year's semi final. Aileen's team got off to a great start but lost a big end in the 6th and eventually finished 10-6 down.

Stranraer weekend
Fifteen of us enjoyed our annual trip to Stranraer at the weekend. The weekend kicked off with a thought-provoking quiz after dinner on Friday night. All teams were level after three rounds, with Mara's team winning the picture round to take bragging rights! We fielded three rinks in the competition. All teams had two games of curling on Saturday, followed by dinner, dancing and a ceilidh where some of our members contributed poems and stories. No really late nights as we all had a further game on Sunday morning. Congratulations to Mike's rink for finishing runners up in their section and qualifying for the semi-final. Unfortunately they did not make it to the final. Thanks to Ronnie and Jennifer for making all the arrangements and keeping us right over the weekend. Next year we are booked for the same weekend, so get that in the diaries!

First matches of the New year
Happy New Year to all Fullarton members.
Because of illness only one match got played in the opening night of the new season. Margaret's rink, skipped by Campbell, played Mara's rink. It was a good game on very keen ice, with Mara's rink coming out winners. We now have a gap of a few weeks before our next scheduled matches, although a number of us are heading for Stranraer for our annual curling weekend next week
